We launched our Accelerator Programme in February 2022, with our training partner the Fashion Institute of Garment Technology (FIGT) by the Cape Town College of Fashion Design (CTCFD).

This is a SETA accredited, full time course “One Year General Education & Training Certificate in Clothing Manufacturing Process”.

Class of 2022

Thirteen women were selected to take part in the 2022 programme, benefiting from fully sponsored tuition, equipment and supplies for the year.

12 women successfully completed the course and graduated in November 2022, celebrated with a ceremony held at the Palms in Woodstock.

Their work was showcased on the runway in the CTCFD & FIGT year end fashion show, a very special moment to see their hard work and creativity on show. We are so proud of them!

We ended the year with a special CoaK celebration, a picnic in Green Point Park, where we also announced the five students who would be sponsored to go on to complete their 2nd year at FIGT in 2023, specialising in tailoring, lingerie and bridal fashion. 

In addition to the FIGT curriculum, students benefit from additional CoaK self development modules:

 

  • We took the students on field trips to Table Mountain and Boulders Beach, a beading workshop and pottery painting to add to their fun and mainly their team spirit. This was the start to building a strong sisterhood.

  • Our counsellor covered the crucial topics of self-knowledge, self-forgiveness, self-acceptance, self-esteem, self-confidence and self-discipline with the ultimate goal to help our students develop their full potential. Interested ladies were also offered to continue with one-on-one counselling.

  • This module was facilitated by FIGT and covered principles of entrepreneurship and product development, understanding the market and the consumer, develop a basket of products that you can sell, and sales / building your business.

  • Last but not least, our HR expert gave insights regarding how the fashion industry works, different avenues now available to our graduates, identifying employer needs, writing a proper CV and cover letter, best practices for applying for a job and for attending an interview.

 

 Class of 2023

We sponsored another thirteen women to take part in the 2023 Accelerator programme, benefiting from fully sponsored tuition, equipment and supplies for the year.

12 of them successfully completed the course and graduated in November 2023. They demonstrated their impressive creativity during their end of year fashion show in Woodstock.

Once again, their FIGT curriculum was complemented by our CoaK self development modules and HR training.

Moreover, all five of our sponsored second years successfully completed the programme and showcased stunning creations at the fashion show!
