Indibano
Indibano, meaning “gathering” in isiXhosa, was created as an opportunity for programme alumni to get together and reconnect, while learning something new that will further improve their employability, expose them to new skills.
Indibano #5: June 2023
at our Creative Studio
This Indibano was extra special: not only did it take place at our own venue, the Creative Studio, but our 2022 Accelerator cohort got to meet and mingle with our 2023 Accelerator cohort.
Our workshop was great fun: We embellished tote bags with crayons and beads. Stunning designs by our creative students!
Indibano #4: February 2023
with Truekrav
We were delighted to partner with Trukrav who facilitated a self defence workshop. We had not only a fun time, but a real workout!
Thanks to for facilitating, Trukrav! And special thanks once again to you, Radisson Red, for the nice venue and hospitality.
Indibano #3: May 2022
with Dimzique
The group - that included past Learn Make Sew students as well as our first Accelerator cohort - spent an afternoon learning new skills.
We were delighted to have Yvonne Manyiki, an established jewellery designer with her own brand Dimzique, lead an interactive workshop where participants learnt to make beaded jewellery.
We were so impressed with everyone's creations and are quite sure that some new passions and talents were unleashed! Special thanks to Yvonne for facilitating this event, and the Radisson Red for sponsoring our venue for the day again.
Indibano #2: February 2022
with House of Pads
We were delighted to partner with House of Pads who facilitated a wonderful workshop teaching our attendees how to sew reusable sanitary pads.
Period poverty is a very real issue in South Africa, where women and girls may not have access to or enough money for period products and often miss out on school or work because of this. House of Pads' mission is to eradicate period poverty in SA and teaching women to make their own pads, gives them not only a safe and affordable solution but also a possible new business venture!
We were thrilled about our surprise visitor, Denise Zimba, which made the day!
Thanks to the House of Pads team for facilitating this workshop. And special thanks to the Radisson Red for their ongoing support.
Indibano #1: August 2021
with CTCFD
We held our first Indibano in August 2021 at Workshop 17 at the V&A Waterfront.
Thanks to Nicole da Silva from the Cape Town College of Fashion Design for hosting a business basics workshop and to Sindisiwe, one of our past students, who shared her story and had valuable advice for her fellow alumni.
